Acts 1:8

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Today we are looking for power. In our careers, our family or in our community. We often think that having power means that we can accomplish certain goals or task. The disciples too were looking for power to overcome oppression and asking Jesus about when He would establish Israel as a nation again, but Jesus had another task for them.

We need resources to serve the Lord and what better place to get them than from the Lord. Jesus tells the disciples to go and wait (the word no one likes to hear). But if they will go and wait, God will empower them. Give them the ability to accomplish the task at hand. Not to go set up a new government or nation, but to “be witnesses” of Christ. To spread the good news that relationship with God and man has been restored by the payment for sin through Jesus Christ and it is free to anyone who will receive it!

We need the Holy Spirit. Ask to be filled up and be empowered to be a witness for Jesus!
